Re-Elect Dr. Lisa Sparks for Orange County Board of Education
Dr. Lisa Sparks is a dedicated educator, leader, and longtime advocate for students and families across Orange County. As a Dean and Professor at Chapman University, she has spent her career working to strengthen academic programs, support student achievement, and prepare the next generation for success in college, careers, and civic life.
Lisa is running for re-election to the Orange County Board of Education to champion Academic Excellence for every student. She believes strong schools are built on high standards, outstanding teachers, and a clear focus on learning. Her priorities include supporting strong neighborhood public schools, expanding access to high-quality public charter schools, and ensuring families have meaningful school choice options that meet the different needs of their children.
Lisa is committed to keeping classrooms focused on education, not politics. She believes parents, teachers, and communities should work together to create safe, supportive learning environments where students can thrive and reach their full potential.
With experience as an 8-year member of the Orange County Board of Education and in higher education leadership and a deep understanding of what it takes to build strong academic programs, Lisa Sparks is ready to continue thoughtful, steady leadership to the Orange County Board of Education—putting students, families, and academic success first.
ABOUT DR. SPARKS
Dr. Sparks is an internationally renowned teacher, scholar and researcher in health and behavioral science communication. She currently serves as Endowed Professor in Behavioral Sciences in the School of Communication, of which she was a founding Dean for Chapman University. Dr. Sparks also has joint appointments in the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences and School of Pharmacy at Chapman University. She also has affiliated appointments in the Computational and Data Science Program, Schmid College of Science and Technology, and is an Adjunct Professor of Public Health at the University of Irvine, Cancer Communications Research fellow for the National Cancer Institute. She has published more than 150 research articles and authored 13 books in the area of health risk communication and aging.
Dr. Sparks received her Bachelor, Masters and Doctorate (PhD 1998) degrees all from the University of Oklahoma. She also holds post graduate certifications from Harvard University’s Institute for Management and Leadership in Education (MLE) program in the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In addition to her work with Chapman University, Dr. Sparks has appeared in segments on ABC7 News, KCAL9 News, National Public Radio, Your World with Neil Cavuto-Fox News, KABC Talk Radio, and featured in articles in the Orange County Register, Epoch Times-California Insider.
Lisa Sparks lives in Newport Beach with her husband and has three grown daughters.
